Hi, I’m Kelly Warner. I’m a writer/transcriptionist/critic/independent publisher. My books include In the Shadow of Extinction: A Kaiju Epic, Rakasa, and the forthcoming Shadows Over Belle City, which I am co-writing with Scriptophobic’s Zack Long. Us writers could all use a little help in getting our words in order, but sometimes we either don’t have the right writer friends in our corner or maybe we just can’t trust our friends to be as honest with us as we’d like. Maybe the story’s not clicking the way you’d like, maybe you just want a final proofread before going to press or maybe you just need a couple notes here and there. Any writer who has written with the intent of being read has been where you are today.

I am not an English professor, I do not have a Masters, and I may not be a NYT bestselling author. What I am is an author who has spent years on the craft and who’s been where you are now, who’s helped others, and who knows what it’s like to need some help. If we work together, I’ll be in your corner, rooting for your success. I can’t guarantee you’ll find that success — that’s not up to us — but I’ll do my best to assist you with all the skills at my disposal.
Services
Proofreading — Proofreading should be the final stage after you are sure you love your story as-is but just want another set of eyes on it looking for typos, misspelled words, or curious glitches that you might have missed because you’re too close to your own story (it happens!). Poor grammar, sentence structure, and creative inconsistencies are not covered by the proofread. $8 per 1,000 words.
Copy Editing — Copy editing is similar to proofreading, but in addition to typos, misspellings, and glitches, I’ll also look for poor grammar, wonky sentence structure, and inconsistencies (like your main character suddenly turning blond in chapter 2, for example). $10 per 1,000 words.
Creative Consultation — I’ll go DEEP into what works in your story and what doesn’t. I’m going to be honest about it. Pull no punches. Because what I’m trying to do is to help you write the best version of your story that you can. Some of my advice can be ignored — it’s your book, after all. What you’re paying for is my opinion on what can be improved, what could be cut, and where the book’s strengths really are, so that you will know how to improve it in a rewrite. (Note: Creative Consultation does not include proofreading or copy-editing.) $12 per 1,000 words.
Beta Reading — Beta reading is basically Creative Consultation Lite. I’ll read your entire book and provide feedback without going in-depth into every chapter or character. Consider it an honest, early review of your unreleased book. $6 per 1,000 words.
Package deals: Combine any two of the above services and get $3 off the combined rate.
Ghostwriting: I ain’t afraid. Tell me what you have in mind and we’ll see what we can do. Pricing varies and I reserve right to turn down any ghostwriting request.

Payment will be made through PayPal but there will be no money exchanged up up front. We should talk first to make sure our working relationship will be a good fit. I want you to feel comfortable. Plus, I’m taking on clients on a first-come, first-served basis. As such, I might be backed up with other work when you contact me, and if that’s a problem you should be allowed to take your book elsewhere.
For what it’s worth, I should note up front that I have more experience writing and editing in sci-fi, horror, action, and fantasy. I will take on other genres but that’s where I’ll be able to offer the most insight for creative consults. Short stories and novellas are welcome as well. And I only work in the English language.
